Phil,
You will be happy to know that I know about Lucinda and Clarinda Lasley and now, you will.
My great Grandparents were Dica Stogsdill and James Wilson Lasley. While researching my family tree I came across this family line.In this line is James Lasley. As far as I can tell it is not the same James as my relative.
I am sure that you have found that family lines just keep repeating the same names over and over, until it is hard to distinguish one James from another. You just have to pay attention to the details.
Enjoy....
First Generation
1. William Stogsdill; Born in 1790 in Rowen Co., N.C. William died in Ripley or Oregon County, MO on 13 Jul 1841; he was 51. Possibility that this William Stogsdill is the son of Vachel Stogsdill and Susannah Bayless and grandson of Morris Stogsdill and Sarah Williams who married March 4, 1768 Rowan Co., NC. William's background has not been verified and confirmed by this author, therefore I cannot state that as fact.
On 17 Jun 1815 when William was 25, he married Malinda "Linny" Couch, daughter of Moses Couch & Elizabeth Lindley, in Pulaski Co., Ky. Born in 1795 in S.C. Malinda Linny died in Oregon Co., Mo About 1881; she was 86. In the 1860 Oregon County, MO census Malinda is listed as Linna Stogsdill; She was living by herself, next door to her daughter, Betsy Bennett;
1860 Oregon County, MO Census:

They had the following children:
2 i. Josiah Stogsdill (1817-1867)
3 ii. Archibald "Arch" Stogsdill (1820-1871)
4 iii. William S. "Billy" Stogsdill (1822-1907)
5 iv. Elizabeth "Betsy" Stogsdill (1825->1880)
6 v. Daniel Newton Stogsdill (1827-1899)
7 vi. Mary "Polly" Stogsdill (1828-1851)
Second Generation
2. Josiah Stogsdill; Josiah was the first son of William and Malinda Couch Stogsdill. He was born on Jan. 13, 1817 in Pulaski Co., Ky. Josiah died in Everton, Dade Co., MO on 1 Dec 1867; he was 50. Buried at Everton in Sinking Creek Cemetery, Dade Co., MO. About Aug 1836 when Josiah was 19, he married Lydia Hall, (daughter of Thomas Hall and Sarah Milly Williams) in AL.
Josiah was a farmer. He and Lydia Hall appeared in the census records in June 1860 in Polk Twp., Dade Co., MO. Josiah valued his real estate at $3000. and his personal property at $1200. Note on the 1860 Dade Co., MO Census, that twins Clarinda & Lucinda Lasley are living in the household of Josiah Stogsdill in 1860 Dade County, MO. These twins were the orphan daughters of Josiah's sister, Mary "Polly" Stogsdill Lasley.
Listed in the Sinking Creek Cemetery Book is: (orig. edition 1983)
"STOGSDILL, Joseph (Josiah?) 13 Jan 18?7 - Dec 18?7 (1860 Census, see Stocksdell, Stocksdale) " East Sec. Row 14. Other Stogsdills mentioned are: "STOGSDILL, Benjamin Leander 12 Oct 1867?-??"; "STOGSDILL, Lydia 10 Oct? 1815? - 17 Oct 1869 ae 51y"; "STOGSDILL, James 7 Dec 1839 - 10 May 1864". All are in East Sec., Row 14.
This author has personally been to the Sinking Creek Cemetery outside of Everton in Dade County, MO in 2001. I and two other searchers tried to find Josiah and Lydia's graves.. We didn't find them, but according to Mike Landwehr, "the gravestones for Josiah and Lydia Stogsdill are hand-made gravestones--unlike any others I've ever seen. They are inscribed, but it appears that the stones were made from sandstone, or some similar relatively soft material. The inscriptions were difficult to read when I first visited the cemetery over 20 years ago (1980), and I'm sure that the situation has not improved."
