I have exactly the information you're looking for. I'm a descendant and have been researching him on & off for a few years. I've never seen anything about a sibling or a Mary Montgomery. He appears to be the only Lassen in Salem for that time period, and he came from Denmark. He was originally listed in the city directories as "Lawson." As far as I know, he had only one daughter, no sons. HIs granddaughter was my great grandmother. I have much more information, if any of this applies to your family.
