John Salter, a son of Justice Richard Salter of monmouth county. John lived on Staten Island where he had a farm for many years.He subsequently moved his family to Hoboken, where he resided until the time of his death.Richard originally came from Barbadoes and was English.His first appearance was at Screwsbury in the old court records in 5/23/1704 and the last record was 6/23/1748. John's son David settled in Bergen Neck in 1832.
