Dear Terry,

I have Wells as William T. LaTourette b. c1841 in Lenawee Co., MI (my great grandmother, unrelated to the Latourette's, was born in Tecumseh in same county). He died before 1900. He married a woman named Katie who was born in Oregon. They had two daughters I know of, Eva and Greta who were born June 1884 and Oct. 1888 in Salem, OR.

I located this Civil War Record on Wells:
Name: Wells T Latourette ,
Residence: Wayland, Michigan
Enlistment Date: 20 September 1862
Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Side Served: Union
State Served: Michigan
Unit Numbers: 1075 1075
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 20 September 1862 at the age of 19
Enlisted in Company K, 6th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 13 October 1862.
Promoted to Full Corporal on 01 November 1864
Promoted to Full Sergeant on 01 July 1865
Mustered out Company K, 6th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 24 November 1865 in Fort Leavenworth, KS

You should be able to obtain his pension record from the National Archives which will include some interesting informaion on his service, etc. You can order this record on line at the NA. There is a fee but will only charge you if they find the record. You might also attempt to order records under his widdow.

His father was Orange Latourette born May 2, 1815 in Lodi, Seneca Co., NY he married Nancy Havens. I have record of 5 children, most with decendants.

Notes I have on Orange:
At Bradley, Barry Co., MI there are the following burials at Robbins Cemetery:

Infant LaTourette        (?)-01/28/1880
Loueza C. LaTourette 07/28/1849 - 10/13/1851
Louise LaTourette 08/21/1849 - 10/31/1851
Osie M. 08/01/1870 - 03/10/1896
and his wife Nancy, age 70 died 03/30/1876.

Grant signers found in pre-1908 Michigan Cash & Homestead Entries on the Cadastral Survey Plat of Township 6 South, Range 1 West (roughly Wheatland Twp. - Hillsdale County )
These documents were signed between 1831 and 1872.
LATOURRETTE, Orange
They have him as Orange La Tourrette "of Lenawee County, MI.****Notice two r's in name.***

Orange's parents were David La Tourette and Hannah Hegeman and they had a total of 13 children born at Lodi. Information on this family can be found in "The Latourette Annals in America" by Lyman LaTourette (this book as MANY errors and researchers need to check facts for themselves).

I have the line back to Jean La tourrette and Marie Mercereau if you do not have it or would like additional information.

If you are connected to this family I would love to hear back from you for I have some missing information on this family.

Hope this helps?
Robert
