La Tourette and Haines

I’ve just recently happened upon your research community, and have a bit to contribute that seems to connect.

My great grandfather, John Frank Haines (1829-1895), apprenticed as a blacksmith with Jacob La Tourette on the latter’s farm near the hamlet of Walden, Montgomery Town, Orange County. Jacob had married John Frank’s aunt, Catherine Snyder Tremper who was sister to my great, great grandmother, Phoebe Ten Eyck Tremper.

According to the 1850 Montgomery Census Jacob (age 48) was a farmer who headed a household including wife Catherine (age 47), and their children; Phebe (age 18), Peter (age 15), Ophelia (age 13), William H. (Age 10), and John E. (age 3 ½).
