Solomon Browning was born 1779 VA or Maryland he differs between these 2 locations on the 1850 & 1860 census for Jackson County.

Per Solomon's uncle's will, Eli B. Browning, in Monrow County, GA he is the son of Benjamin Browning and possibly Margaret. Margaret lives with is younger brother Benjamin and is enumerated with her 1820, 30, 40, & 50.
In 1860 he is listed in his daughters house. These Brownings moved to Jackson County from Jefferson County in 1802 after Eli B. purchased large amounts of land on Crooked and Club Creeks. The same year Crooked Creek Baptist Church was founded. This area once the center of Jackson County is now in the south-east cornor near the Clarke, Oconne, & Barrow border.

Solomon was the oldest of 6 children. Other siblings of Solomon include:
1) Susannah Browning
2) Nancy Browning born 1794 GA who married Ransom Nichols and lived in Clarke County. Ransom was born 1786 NC and is enumerated in Clarke County as early as 1820. The Nichols family is listed amoung the first settlers of Jackson County when it was the Talassee Colony. Ransom Nichol(d)s and Benjamin Browning Jr. are granted letters of adm for the estate of Benjamin Sr 2 Sep 1850 Jackson County. Possibly after the death of Benjmain Sr's wife Margaret who was enumerated earlier that year as age 99 born 1751 Maryland.
3) Melinda Browning (Also found as Relinda or Belinda) born 1800 GA married 27 NOV 1814 Jackson County to James C. Smith born 1785 VA. 1815 John C. Smith applied for letters of Adm for the estate of Benjamin Browning in Jackson County. 1850 John C. Smith age 65 VA is enumerated with Relinda age 50 GA, John D age 22 GA, Sarah age 18 GA, Jasper N. age 14 GA and Berry H. age 10 GA.
4) Benjamin born 1805 GA enumerated alone with his mother 1830, 1840, 1850. It is presumed he never married.
5) "Sallie" Sarah Browning born 1806 GA married 1821 Jonathan Kinney, married 2nd about 1856 to a Smith.

Solomon Browning married 13 Nov 1817 to Jael Ellis who was born 1792 in Maryland

Solomons Daughter Margaret Fulton Browning was born 30 DEC 1820(2) in Hall County she married about 1846 Caleb (Calep) Oliver Latty (Latta) born 1822 GA. Oliver Latty is enumerated in Hall County 1820, 1830, & 1850.

1860 Jackson County Calep O. Latty is enumerated age 38 GA farmer with:
Margaret 38 f GA
Berdine D. 15 m GA
Cicero 12 m GA
John M. 10 m GA
Soloman H. 8 m GA
Henry C 5 m GA
Mary E. 1f GA
and Soloman Browning age 81 Maryland

I descend from Solomon Brownings youngest sister "Sallie". I am interested in iny information about Benjamin Sr. Margaret or any of their children's lines.
