Thanks so much, Tom, for the reply. That explanation makes perfect sense. I'm glad to find it out! It is even probable that these later migrations followed the route of the original Trail of Tears. If that be the case, (and it seems likely), then they could rightly say they came over the trail of tears.
I have something else to add since this post. I have obtained a copy of Susan Abernathy Latty's death certificate. It states she died on January 6, 1912 at the age of 81 years and 3 months. I used an on-line birthdate calculator to determine her birthdate. I entered the date of her death and her age at the time of her death. The program calculated her birth date to be October 6, 1830. (That's two years different from the year 1828 which I had originally). Her death certificate also states she was buried in Mill Creek, McDonald County Missouri on January 7, 1912. The undertaker was J.H. Cardwell of Jane Missouri. Lawson Latty was the one who furnished the information. He lived at Sulpher Springs Arkansas at the time.
I also believe I have found Susan's mother and some of her siblings. See below.
1850 census, Hamilton County Tennessee, District # 27, (Ancestry.Com census image # 89). The census taker forgot to cross his t's. That's why this family was so hard to find in the census this year.
William Lally age 24, born Tennessee
Susan, age 24, born Tennessee ( According to her death certificate, she was born North Carolina)
Mary, age 2, born Tennessee
Neighbors right next to them are Mary Abanatha (I believe this is Susan's widowed mother with her surname misspelled. Census takers are famous for that), age 47, born North Carolina. Children still at home are Martha, age 18 born Tn., Elizabeth, age 16, born Tn., Sarah, age 12, born Tn., William, age 10, born Tn.
Thanks again, Tom, for the response. I was afraid I had killed this board and it made me feel just terrible. Maybe people will begin to write again. I do hope so.
