Charles Laughton - Actor - war service
This is a last hope request.
I am writing a book on the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalions who fought in the Great War of 1914 - 1918.They were local to the old county of Huntingdonshire in England, but on the outbreak of the war went to the East coast. The 1/1st Battalion went to Scarborough in Yorksire, where Charles Laughton joined their ranks. This was beecause the hotel that his parents ran was used as the officers mess and he got to know the men there.Very little is known on his military service, only that he did serve and was transferred to another regiment to serve overseas. One record indicates hat he was "gasses at Vimy Ridge" but to date all aspects of his service and most of his early life can't be proved.Any help anyone can give would be most appreciated.
Thanks.
