Lynne, James Millar Laughton can be found on the 1891 Census living in Longbenton, Northumberland. Also, in the Northumberland Census of that year is a John Laughton aged 70 b. Stromness. He was a shipwright living at 13 Upper Pearson Street, Tynemouth. His wife is shown as Mary,66, born in North Shields. I wondered if that was his second wife and he is James's father. I found the above whilst researching my Gr grandmother Barbara Scott nee Laughton who had moved from Scotland to North Shields. I think she may have come from Orkney. Let me know if you find a link, please.
