Billee,
Many coincidences, but I fear not a match. I may not have all the children, and it's still possible, but here is what I do know for sure. Most of what I know came from our Stirling (org. Glasgow, Scotland, later Montreal, Canada) family bible.
John Laurie died at 90 Regent Terrace, Glasgow on October 10th, 1864 aged 79 years.
(b.abt.1785)
James Laurie died at Rothesay on the 14th of June 1857, aged 67 years. (b.abt 1790)Your James was b.in 1794.Do you know where or when he died?
Janet Laurie born in 1788, married John Stirling of Glasgow in around 1818.She d. in 1868, buried in Glasgow, Scotland. You had a Frances Erskine b. in 1788. This makes the matching tough unless Frances Erskine was the name of one of the Laurie's wives (Erskine being her last, and not middle name).
Your Janet was b. in 1756, which makes it possible, for her to be a sibling of my James Laurie, but I just don't have that info.
Mary Laurie born December 2, 1802.
??? Laurie b.1804, married Mr. Harley
??? Laurie born in 1806 m. Mr. Callam
William Laurie b.August 18, 1808
??? Laurie married a Mr.Coulson b. after 1809
Common names are James, William, John, Mary, and Janet. The years are close but as you have probably seen, these are common Laurie (and Scottish) names.
It would make sense if John Laurie was only 20 when James was born (in 1765) that he could easily father children until 1809 (age 44 or so). This generation matches up pretty well except for the Frances and James as I mentioned above. Let me know if any of this seems to work in your ancestors records.
Regards,
Doug
