Hi Ann,Just came across your inquiry about the E in the Lavelle name.I can trace my Lavelle's back to the early 1800's in Dooagh, County Mayo. Our Lavelle name has always been spelled with E as Lavelle. We are still (mostly) Roman Catholics and trying to instill the same in our children and grandchildren. This was the first time I had heard of the E possibly being for the Church of England. One thing I have heard is that the Lavelles were originally from France and sailed to Ireland during the French Revelution. Can't help but wonder if my ancestors were the Gentry or the servants.I heard this from my Great Aunt that was a Nun.She had the story from her Mother, my great grandmother, who was born a Lavelle in Dooagh, and immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in the 1800's. It may be true as the family history was passed from generation to generation years ago. Wish someone had written it down.Good Luck with your research.Lynn
