Louise - I can not thank you enough for the information. I really have no information regarding my mothers family on her father's side - and have been searching for my grandfather for some time. Finding my grandfather has been the most difficult task. All of the documents I have show that his name is Clarence Ellis Loyd. It wasn't until I tied (by accident) into the Lawhead family that I was able to find the family in the 1880 census. Do not have any idea why the name was different. I was able to get a copy of the marriage register showing David E. Lawhead and Mary L. Scott were married 2/12/1868.

David & Mary Louise Lawhead had four children -
William b abt. 1869
Clarence b. 12/19/1870 d. 4/8/1952
Ella May b. 5/29/1874 d. 7/30/1962
George b. abt. 1877

Clarence married Anne Euphemia Langton (b. abt. 1881) in Los Angeles 6/11/1902. They had three children:
Clarence "Scott" Loyd 6/12/1904 d. ??
Celia Eleanor Loyd 9/24/1907 d. 7/12/1959
Corinne Anne Loyd 10/31/1921 (my mother) d. 6/3/1984

The Scott name has continued with the family all these years. My brother is Charles "Scott" Bentley.

In Clarence's will he mentions that he had no contact with either brother (George or William). And of course I don't know if they went with the Lawhead name or ???

His sister Ella May married a Mr. Chandler I believe also in Los Angles. I have some letters that Ella May wrote to my mother, as did her daughter Louise "Scott" Chandler. There is also a brother Carl Chandler. It is amazing to me that all this ties together with the Scott name and Louise's name. Louise never had children - but I was able to find her step-daugther, unfortunatley she really didn't know much. She thinks that Carl had a son.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Were you able to find any headstones for the Scott family in Rock Island?

Again thanks so very much, Nancy
