Maybe Alvin Lawhead you describe was my great grandfather, whose daughter, Elva, was my grandmother. Elva married John Lucas of Columbus, Ohio and had 3 children, John, Jim and Kathy.
I first remember "Dad" Lawhead in Logan, Ohio, in the 1960s. He would have been in his 70s or 80s. He was a S.O.B. and had kicked Elva and Laura (his other daughter) out when they were 12 & 16 ages after his wife Dora died at home of a "head injury". His girlfriend Avrel moved in.
Elva passed away on New Year's day 2006 in her late 80s/early 90s, a sharp bird with a sharp tongue. Elva remembered the Lawhead family owning the Yellow Cab company in Johnstown, PA. She also remembered a story of a flood in Johnstown, and a coal slag heap slide.
Was said that Dad Lawhead has some American Indian in his heritage. Have you heard this?
