This is a quote from a flyer advertising a Lawing reunion of 8/6/1939:

"One Robert Portland Lawing, son of James A. Lawing of Dallas, N.C. was in the war and went west immediately after the Civil War.

I(t) seems that a James Lawing of St. Charles, Mo., is the son of Robert Portland;-also daughters, Mrs. Marie Ferrill, recently of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. A.C. (Ola Lawing) Miller, Lancaster, Wash."
