Do you know if you LAWN ancestors were Irish? If so, you might look into the Derryveagh evictions, which occurred in County Donegal in 1861. You can read about it here:

One of the People involved was an Alexander LAWN, and his family. As Alexander is not a common Irish name, it could be that he is an ancestor of your Eric Alexander LAWN. If you go to this site and type LAWN into the seach window at the botton of the page, you will find a number of refernces to these evicted LAWNs, and their eventual immigration to Australia:
