Origin of Laws family

Robert,
My mother is a Connecticut (out of England via Mass.) Laws. My cousin and sister and I have done an exhaustive genealogy on our Laws branch. I believe that this family is mainly of English (Norman) origin. Most works that I have read say that the original family could have been "de Laye" but there are also hints that the variations of Lewes, Lewis (one of ours had this name on his marriage record), Lay, Low and Lawes are all viable alternatives given the 17th Century propensity for spelling things as they liked. My cousin has most of our information available on her site, entitled, "Thats Wright". Unfortunately the Laws segment has been shut down for a reworking but keep checking.
Sincerely,
Michael D. R. Fullarton
