There were several Trotter-Lawyer marriages.I've seen the marriage records showing Hiram marrying Nancy Trotter, and just recently I downloaded a biography of James Trotter from the 1876 History of Sangamon County, Illinois. James Lawyer, whom you identify as Hiram's father, was almost certainly the son of John Lawyer (b NJ 1763; d. Guernsey County, OH Feb. 15, 1845)and his wife, Mary (last name not determined.) My mother's first cousin, Alice Lawyer Hyatt, prepared a family history--The Lawyer Family of Guernsey County, Ohio. She listed James as born in New Jersey between 1790 and 1800, married to Elizabeth. James sold 14 acres of land in Guernsey county in 1848, presumably because he was about to move to Illinois. In 1850 he was listed in Sangamon County with his wife, Elizabeth, b. Pennsylvania, and four daughters, all born in Ohio. The Sangamon County history says that Nancy was the daughter of James K. Trotter and Mary A. Daubinspeck. Nancy was born Dec. 8, 1829 in Sangamon County and married Hiram Lawyer on Feb. 24, 1848.He was born Dec. 11, 1823 inGuernsey County, OH. Nine children; three died young and are not named in the History. The others were:
Amanda, marr. Mahlon Geathard - 4 children; George W.,
Eliza J., marr. James Burch; William T., Ada A. and Eveline.
John Lawyer's youngest son, William Martin Lawyer, b. 1809, was my great-great-grandfather.
