Mother: Susannah PORTER b: ABT. 1723 Married: ABT. 1741 in Henrico Co., VA
?? Mother: Nancy SHANNON b: ABT. 1747 in ??
+ Barbara DEVAULT b: 1770NC Married: 31 Jul 1789 in Washington County, Virginia
Note:Barbara was "Dutch". John and Barbara migrated to the Sequatchie Valley in Tn. exact date unknown. All their children were born there. Barbara was a widow in 1850 and was living with her son, Daniel, in Grundy Co. Tn. Also living with him in 1860 when her age was given as 90; there is evidence Barbara had a brother Jacob DeVault who m Barbara Weidner, and a sister Mary DeVault who m John Six Jan 1787 Washington Co. VA; Barbara gave the place of her birth as NC. Prior to 1850 this family spelled their name Lane, Lain or Layne but after 1850 the use of LAYNE became general.
