Turner Lane was born January 26, 1762 in Hanover County, Virginia to Daniel and Margaret (Turner) Lane.
Turner served six tours in the Hanover County Militia and served briefly as a substitute for his older brother, James, in the Virginia Line during the revolution.
In the fall of 1783 he moved from Virginia to Wilkes County, Georgia, where he owned 200 acres.
In 1786 he left Wilkes County Georgia for Washington County, Virginia, where he married Martha Anderson.
While residing in Washington County, Turner was a school teacher in the town of Abigton. A peroid account describes Turner "The next teacher of any distinction that came to the vincinity of Abington was Turner Lane, of Irish ancestory, who was born in Hanover County, Virginia. He was a man of good size and appearance, and very orderly in his requirments of school, but not tyranical."
In 1798 he moved his family to Bourbon County, Kentucky.
In 1807 Turner moved to White County, Tennessee and served as a County commisioner from 1807-16. He also helped lay out the town of Sparta. He lived in a part of the county known as Hickory Valley where he had his plantation.
He was also listed the postmaster in 1816.
Turner Lane died August 13, 1840 in White County, Tennessee where he is buried.

Turner Lane ,Jr. was born November 6, 1806. He married Mary "Polly" Scoggins December 31, 1829. He became a very successful merchant and stockman in White County until he went broke. He moved his family to Howard County Arkansas about 1850. Resided and had a farm near Nashville , Arkansas. Died December 12, 1872 and was buried in the Temperanceville Cemetery
