LAZAR in Danes, Mures County, Romania
I am trying to get geneological information about my Romanian grandparents and hopefully locate lost relatives in Romania.
My grandparents, Nicolae Lazar and Ioana Lazar (they had the same names), immigrated to Detroit, MI shortly before 1916 (when their first child, my mother, was born in Detroit) from the village of Danes, near Sighisoara in what is now Mures county in Transylvania. How or when they got here, their route, the relatives they left behind, etc., I have no knowledge. To learn more, I would like to contact appropriate officials in Romania for assistance. But I do not know who those officials are or how to contact them. For example, I could use some guidance with the following questions:
* For information about such things as birth records and marriage records for my grandparents, should I contact the "city hall" or "mayor" in the village of Danes or the nearby city of Sighisoara, or the county government in Mures?
* For information about possible surviving relatives, should I contact the "mayor" or "city hall" of the village Danes?
* I do not speak or write Romanian.Would letters written in English be appropriate and understandable?
* For all of the contacts, what would be the correct form and content of a "mailing address"?How much postage is needed, or should I ask the US Postal Service for that information?
Thanks for your assistance.
