Leach NY/RI to New Brunswick
Hello, Looking for family of Elizabeth Leach.
Her son William Gillespie 1816-1893, listed on his death certificate his father James Gillespie born in PEI (Nova Scotia) and mother Elizabeth Leach born in Rhode Island New York.
James and Elizabeth appear to have several other children (at least 7) born between 1808 and 1832. (From Drouin Acadian Records).
1851 Census for Blackville, Northumberland, NB has Elizabeth as 63 years, born in NB. James is 67, PEI born and immigrated in 1805.
1861 census in Blackville. Elizabeth is 75, James is 79, both listed as native born.
If these birth dates and census records are accurate, Elizabeth was born 1785-1790.
There is a land grant for James Gillespie in 1813 in Newcastle, Northumberland, NB. Co signed with Thomas Leach.
Other Leach's born around the same time as Elizabeth were James b abt 1801 lived in Northesk, NB in 1851 and 1861 census.
Thomas b abt 1792 lived in Northesk, NB in 1851.
Also a William Leach who got a land grant in 1811 in Northumberland with John McEntyre. John McEntyre is also listed on the 1813 land grant with James Gillespie and Thomas Leach along with John Colden.
Is there any connection? I have no idea. Is there a connection between any of these people and Thomas Leach the loyalist? Primarily looking for Elizabeth and her parents.
