Several families of Leans settled in the Sullivan area in the 1840's and 1850's.Many people who settled in this area during that time period came over as a result of primogeniture where the entire estate was left to the oldest son.The other children were given much smaller allowances and America offered an opportunity for a better life if they could afford the trip.
I have no idea if that's why the Leans migrated, nor would it explain why no Leans remain in the area. However an early history on Sullivan discusses primogeniture and how it was a reason for many of the early settlers coming to that village.
