Glennis Eugene Learn, Sr. (Glenn), 87, passed away Sunday, June 15 (2003) in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Freeland, Lucerne County, Pennsylvania, he served in WWII in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific Islands. While serving, he married Joan Thomas, his wife of 59 years. He acted as Royal Ambassador Chief Counselor for 13 years and was a 50-year member in the Murray Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Emma Beth Learn (her daughter Joy Learn) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, sons Glennis Eugene (Gene), Jr. (wife, Lynda, daughter Tiffany and son Andrew) of St. John's County, Florida, David Thomas Learn (wife, Connie, daughter Ayn and son Nathan) of Placenta, California. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Estella Hersker and Sarah Arline Clemons. The viewing will be held at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Avenue on Wednesday, June 18, 6-8 p.m. Church memorial service will be conducted Thursday, June 19, 2 p.m., at the Murray Hill Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers include members of Tom Knight's Sunday School Class. Additional: My father, G.E. Learn, was the son of Harvey Simon Learn, Sr. (parents: Simon Learn and Annetta Butz) and Emma Estella Hoffman (parents: Albert Hoffman and Sarah Anne Singley). He was born and raised in Freeland, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania where he attended Freeland High School, and the Lutheran Church. His brothers, who have preceded him in death are: Harvey Simon, Jr., Alan Hoffman, Wayne Emmett, and Albert Sterling. Notify Administrator about this message?
