Terri,
My connection to Lydia Burchfield Hunter is through James Hunter/Elizabeth Burnett. My late mother was Julia HUNTER Williams from McDowell County NC and I've been to the Nebo cemetery and seen Lydia's gravesite. Mom & I took a picture of the grave stone.I guess you know the story of Lydia's scalping when she was 2 1/2 and that some children were killed and her sister, Mary, was kidnapped and never found..speculation is that she grew up and married a Cherokee chieftan. Thankfully, Lydia survived and married my 4th great-grandfather, Andrew Hunter!
My mother, while employed by the state of North Carolina in Raleigh visited the State Archives and researched the actual documents.I have the names of the children, their spouses names and other information. The ONLY name that matches what you have is James Hunter. I also have information from other reliable sources that do not mention the names that you have listed. If you will e-mail me at [email protected], I will suppy the names of the children etc. to you. I do have some Leatherwood info, however, some of the dates on diffent sites vary somewhat from mine.
There's lots of confusion sometimes because there were other Lydia Hunters and other Lydia Burchfield's -presumably they were named after my Lydia Burchfield/Andrew Hunter grandparents-she was born abt. 1763 and died in 1846.
Hope to hear from you via e-mail.
Nina
