I have Shadrack LEATHERWOOD, presumed to be the oldest child of William and Mary Leatherwood, born in S.C. about 1816, who left the family before the 1840 census. He died after the 1850 census, where he appears with his second wife. Marriage Records of Campbell Co, GA cofirm his first marriage to Anky Right 3/31/1836, and his second marriage to Delitha Findley 2/23/1840. The 1850 Census records of Campbell Co. indicate two children who would have been born after his marriage to Delitha Findley - William J. LEATHERWOOD, born about 1845, and Mary J. LEATHERWOOD, born about 1848. The 1840 census did not list family names, but Shadrack is listed as head of family in Campbell Co. - 736 District - Page 23 - Roll M704_38 Image 1, age 20-30, with a family consisting of 2 females 20-30, one of whom is probably his wife, 2 males 5-10, 1 female under 5 and 1 female 5-10. In 1850, Campbell Co. 10th District - 422B - Dwelling # 280/Family # 280, Roll M432_62 Image 42, his name was spelled Shadrah but since his wife is listed, this is presumed to be a mispelling. Two males and two females, shown in the 1840 census, who would have been in the 10-20 age group in 1850, may be the missing children of Delitha's first marriage, although the youngest female, listed as under 5 in 1840, was probably a child of Shadrach Leatherwood.
