This isn't quit on Rev. John Leavell but on Robert Leavell
It is in Newberry South Carolina. Bush River Baptist Church.
Early Churches of the Back county pg.85 my gggggrandfather was Rev. John Cole who's grandson Gabriel married Elizabeth Leavell. This article..was talking about a Rev. Norris..and then goes to say When Rev. Norris passed away 1780. one of the members John Cole Sr., giving "ardent and warm exhortation", was licensed in 1781 & ordained in 1783 by Joseph Burson and John Webb of Fairforest, at which time he was chosen Pastor of Bush River Church. He remained in that office into the New Century, and from his Pastorate the church became to be known also as "Cole's Meeting House". During that time, Bush River licensed and presented for odination Jessie Brooks and William Cole, Jesse Brooks left the church shortly after his ordination in 1795 and William Cole Died March 1802, that same month in which he was presented. Among the officers ofthe church, Joseph Johnson was ordained deacon in April 1798, to succeed Robert Leavell, deceased. Michael Landers, as church cleark, kept records from May 1792 to Oct. 1804, when his death led to the choice of Stephen McCraw as Clerk >article was wrote Feb. 2, 2001 wrote by Rhoda [email protected]
