Leboeuf from Montreal and Massachussets

The one thing to note is that there are a lot of "Joseph" as part of the names of old french families. This goes back to the Catholic religion where males automatically had "Joseph" as their first name (Sort of like Mohammed for Muslims" and the Females automatically had "Mary" or "Marie" as their first name. This was to commemorate Jesus's Father and Mother. I note that in some cases, you have Joseph as the second name. I suspect that this was reversed in order to not have the commemorative name as the first name. This was done for me when I enlisted in the US Air-force. The Recruiting officer switched the names for me in order to have my true name appear first. Some interesting note is that "G.I. Joe" refers to the French Canadians that joined the US armed forces during WWI. Since the French Catholic males all had "Joseph" as their first name, the military assumed every French male was named "Joseph". (G.I. is for Government Issue)

My own family can be traced as follows:
Philip Leboeuf (Me)
Marcel (Father)
Paul (Uncle)
Leo (?) apparently one of the black sheep that no one talks about - Not sure of the name though
Pierette, Jeanine, Fernande, Denise, Raymonde, Helene, Madeleine (Aunts)
Silva (Grand-father) Born in Haverhill Massachussets
married __________ apparently placed in an assylum. (Children of this marriage unknown)
married Bertha Cochez of Belgium when first wife died. Met in Massachussets
Oswald (Great Grand-father) born in Canada - Probably Montreal - Occupation: Taylor
married Sophia Arnold born in Canada
