After recently seeing an extensive research project which traced my maternal grandfather's family back several hundred years, I decided that I would like to trace my maternal grandmother's family back as far as I can. My maternal grandmother's name was Eleanore Ann Showers, nee Lederer, born March 21, 1921 in Mequon, WI. I know that her parents names are John A. Lederer and Annie Eli. I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling of Eli in this case or not. My uncle has several very old pictures that belonged to my grandmother, and I guess one of them does have the correct spelling of Annie's maiden name written on it. He's told me that he will try to dig it out one of these days and drop it off at my house on his way to work. Anyway, my grandmother had 9 siblings, all born in Mequon, WI: Harry H. - B: Sept. 11, 1907 Arthur - B: Sept. 4, 1910 Frederick - B: Sept. 5, 1912 Norma - B: July 26, 1914 Esther - B: March 9, 1916 Alvin - B: August 1, 1923 Now, I don't know the birthdates of her brothers John Jr, William, and Harvey. I do know that Harvey is the youngest of them all, and I know he was alive in 1993, because he was in attendance at my grandmother's funeral in May, and Norma's funeral in December. But after that, I don't know. My mother tried contacting him to invite him to my high school graduation party last year, but the only address and phone number she had for him were no longer valid. My mother was too emotional to go in to the funeral of my great-aunt Esther in 1995, so she doesn't know if Harvey was there or not. If he is still alive, I know my mother and her brothers would like to see him, for a happy get-together for once, instead of a funeral. Anyway, I know that John A. Lederer's parents are George and Elizabeth Lederer. Nee Robel for Elizabeth. John A. Lederer has two brothers that I know of for sure, Peter and Fredy. I've done research, and it turns up more names for siblings of John: Margaret, Henry, Annie, Elizabeth, Helen, and Catherine. Looking at the birthdate of Annie however, which is 1883, I can't help but think that someone mistakenly recorded Annie as John's sister, and that Annie is actually his wife, Annie Eli, who I know was born July 26, 1884. This is possible, because from the research I've done, John A. Lederer was born in 1873, but I know that he was born in 1874. Also from the research I've done, Fredy is listed as having been born in 1891, but he was born in 1890. I have seen an entry from the 1900 census, and for the Lederer family in question, it does not list Annie as living with them. She would have been 12 at the time. Anyway, I do know that John and Annie Eli, two of their children, Harry and Arthur, as well as John's parents, George and Elizabeth, and siblings Peter and Fredy are all buried in Old Settler's Rest Cemetery in Mequon, WI. My grandmother Eleanore, her sister Norma, and brother Alvin, I know are buried in Pinelawn Cemetary in Milwaukee, WI. And I know that Frederick Lederer was cremated, but I can't remember where his ashes were scattered. Any help that I can get on this would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Glenn Gustafson, Jr
