Researching my husband's grandfather and have very little information. Here is the info I have and any additional info or possible leads would be greatly appreciated:
Born in Germany 27 Sep 1902 and died Nov 1974. Last address of record according to Social Security Index records was New Berlin, Chenango, NY. Became US citizen in 1952.
Married Toni Katherine (Wurster) @ Long Island, NY. (not sure of date) Toni was also from Germany, born 26 Sep 1902. Her parents were Freidrich and Catherine (Renschler) Wurster. She died in California in 1977. We think she emigrated to the US in 1928
Family lore is that Adolf was born "somewhere in northern Germany"; nobody seems to know the town. He was one of approximately 17 children. He was young when he "went to sea", we assume as a ship employee. We can find no record of his arrival in the U.S. If he was a ship employee he could have gotten off ship at any port rather than any of the usual immigrant arrival ports.
I have not been able to find out where he was born, his parent's names, names of any siblings. I've been told he was the only family member to survive WWII but have no proof if that statement is true or false.
I've also been told that at some unknown date his mother re-married but have no name of the second spouse and any information on what happened to his father.
My husband seems to think both his grandparents were cremated and their ashes scattered at sea since I haven't been able to locate any burial records.
