LeDoux - EARLY LOUISIANA ANCESTRY - POINTE COUPEE COMMUNITY SERIES
Anyone with roots deep in Louisiana will want to attend the third annual conference sponsored by the Foundations of Pointe Community Series, in cooperation with Creole West Productions and Les Creoles de Pointe Coupee.
This year's conference is devoted to the second half of the colonial period when Anglo-Americans began to arrive, and the French population continued to thrive. Experts will offer a variety of programs on genealogy and history, featuring Fr. LaVergne "Pike" Thomas III. Documents from Spanish archives that have never been seen in modern times will be high-lighted.
The event takes place Saturday, May 30, at the Julien Poydras Center in New Roads, La. Registration fee is $25.00 plus an optional $10.00 for the reception following the day's program. Advance registration is encouraged to assure proper seating. Contact Creole West Productions 1521 Hillside Drive Fort Collins, Colorado 80524, or by e-mail at

Note from Rose:
Because my mother, Alcina LeDoux (1909-1920) lost both parents at age nine, she knew very little of her family's history.
In order to trace her LeDoux family, I entered all the LeDoux I could find in published Catholic Church Records including:
1) Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records (includes Acadian Records 1707-1748, now reprinted as Volume la Revised).
The original Volume 1, 1707-1759, included the Acadian Records plus early records of Pointe Coupee. On page 187, I found:
i. Pierre LeDoux, native of Boucherville, Canada (Gabriel & Marguerite *Richehomme) m. 8 Jul 1847, Cecile Rondot, widow in first marriage of Etienne Descuirs (Jean & Marie Colon). Wit. Antoine Sarazin, Francois de la Serre, Pierre Chauvin, (PCP-1, 78). (*should read Marie Marguerit Monin - Richehomme was her mother's maiden name.) Pierre and Cecile are my direct ancestors.

Villeneuve, Azema, and their 8 children are listed in the LeDoux book on page 562.
After Azema Ardoin died, "Villeneuve" m. Adelaide Simon Fontenot the wid Sonnier. Villeneuve and Adelaide had 5 children, only 2 survived. My dec'd aunt Alcedia LeDoux and my dec'd mother Alcina LeDoux.
After I had completed my own LeDoux research, I found a copy of the LeDoux book in the Evangeline Parish Library in Ville Platte. By comparing LaVergne Thomas' research, I learned that I'd followed the right LeDouxs. That was the frosting on the cake.
I am glad I had the opportunity to buy a copy of the reprinted LeDoux book. Buy one if you can. You'll be glad you did.
Best regards,
Rosie Morein Wells
