Hi Tarja,
I think I might help you. I am currently living in Tennessee but hope to be back on Cape Cod soon. My husband has Finnish roots and I have spent 2 days trying to find his Mother's family. His grandmother was Serafina ???. Serafina came to America from Finland in 1902. She married John A Polto who came to America from Finland in 1901--can not find Polto as a surname in Finland! Records indicate that she was a Niskala but my husband says no and says that somehow they were related to the Leeman's. By the way my husband was born and raised on Cape Cod.
I have John V Leeman age 30 in 1910 in west Barnstable, Ma. his wife is Emelia age 27 from Sweden. Their children were Hilda M age 6, Ewall W age 4 [that is how the name looks], John T age 2, Charlie H age 1 also in the house was Dan Z?? age 58 father and Christina age 59 mother.
John V was a general farmer and his mother and father worked in the Cranberry bogs. In 1930 I have Victor Leeman age 50 living in W Barnstable with his family. His wife is Emelia age 47 from Sweden, Hilda M age 26, Toivo age 19, Samuel age 16, Ethel age 14 and Ruth age 9.
In 1920 in Boston, Mass. I have Hilda Heapaniemi age 35 a widow born in Finland, daughter Lydia age 9, son Frederick W age 7, daughter Effie age 5, son Arthur age 2 and Christina Leeman age 69 mother a widow born Finland.
Of interest Hilda immigrated to America the same as Serafina which was again 1902.
Hope this helps.
