LEES of SADDLEW/ORTH MOOR
Hi everyone,
this is one of those 'grasping at straws' moments. But who knows, maybe someone out there can assist!!!
I descent from a Joseph Lees. His parents split up soon after he was born, c 1790.His father was a Lees, whose first name eludes me.His mother was called Rebecca Smithers.
Joseph was raised by two brothers (Lees uncles) who were wool-staplers on Saddleworth Moor, Lancashire, until he left their care.
His mother, Rebecca Smithers, had stayed with cousins of hers, in London, called JACKLYN who had a milners shop, as their housekeeper, before leaving to help raise her grandson, Frederic Richard LEES (no K) called Joseph, after his mother died in 1816.
Like I said, I'm clutching at straws. Does this mean anything to anyone researching LEES?
Any help GREATLY appreciated.
