You're probably my distant relative!

Philip Leibold is my great-great-grandfather. He was indeed married three times. He served during the Civil War; my father obtained his records from the U.S. National Archives. Philip was probably born in 1844. This is because an Application for an Original Invald Pension, filed on December 15, 1899, states he was 55 years old.
Philip served as a private with Company D, 8th Minnesota Infantry from Aug. 20, 1862, to July 11, 1865, commanded by General Sibley (no first named given). He was honorably discharged at Charlotte, North Carolina on July 11, 1865.
While on an Indian expedition in the Dakota Territory in summer 1863, he drank alkalytic water and suffered a kidney disease, which gave him diarrhea (this is why later he applied for an invalid's pension). He claimed in the 1899 pension application that a buzzing in the head and a dry throat had gotten increasingly worse since the experience.
Aftter the Civil War, Philip worked as a farmer in Meriden Township, Steele County, Minnesota.
Philip's wives were:
Elizabeth Wolford, died April 4, 1889;
Mary F. Porter, married May 19, 1891, died in Owatonna, Minnesota, Feb. 26, 1895;
and Lucinda Lee McCrady, married Sept. 28, 1895, at Philip's farm in Meriden Township, Minnesota.
The third Mrs. Leibold tried to apply for a widow's pension after Philip died in Bartlett, Minnesota, on Dec. 20, 1907. The application was quickly rejected -- in March 1908, the bureaucrats indicated that Lucinda Lee Leibold had been married and divorced once before (to William McCrady) and was not entitled to benefits.
Philip's children were:
Mary Leibold, born April 9, 1861
Albert Leibold, born Sept. 2, 1862
Charles Leibold, born May 5, 1866
Laura Leibold, born Jan. 13, 1868
Rosetta Leibold, born Nov. 4, 1869
Elmer Leibold, born Nov. 25, 1871
Emily Leibold, born Nov. 2, 1873
Jefferson Leibold, born March 20, 1876
Jessie May Leibold, born June 1, 1878
Ernest Leibold, born June 27, 1880
Philip Willard Leibold, born May 27, 1873
George Elmer Leibold, born May 4, 1886
Harry Bennett Leibold, born Feb. 12, 1886

Albert Leibold married Lenora "Jennie" Eastling, who gave birth to several children, including Gretia Zeldia Leibold, who married Francis Thomas Green Wood, who had a son, Francis Green Wood, who had a daughter, me.

Elmer, your ancestor, can be clearly seen in the records, too.
