Mary Lou: we are related to the Leist family which settled in Pickaway County, OH in the early 1800s. Another family member,Sue Parsons Leist, did an extensive history of the Leists. Her index does not have a Mary Eliza born c. 1777.Her research does indicate that 2 generations of the Leists were living in Northumberland/Snyder County PA by the 1770s: a David Leist, possibly born in the 1730s, and an Andrew Leist, born 1755. The same family likely also lived earlier in Hunterdon Cty NJ and in Berks Cty PA.
We know the names of all of Andrew's children and their birth dates from a document in the Ross Cty Oh museum, and there is no Mary Eliza.Perhaps Mary Eliza was a younger sister, or niece, of Andrew born 1755. That could explain Mary Eliza's move to Pickaway Cty following death of her husband Benjamin Yetter/Yoder.That also would account for Andrew Leist being named guardian for the minor Yoder children after the 1812 death of Matthias Schoch (who also had relatives in Pickaway Cty OH).
One thing we are curious about is why some researchers believe that the wife of Andrew Leist's son Andrew (born 1782)is Catherine Yetter/Yoder? Our research suggests that this Catherine is Catherine, the daughter of Peter Rowe, who also moved from PA to Pickaway Cty OH around 1808.
Please share any info you have.
