Patricia, I too have been looking for the source of an African American Lennard/Leonard family. My Lennard is Sallie/Sally Lennard/Leonard... yes, both spellings appear on a marriage record. Sallie married my ggrandfather, Olin Speed, Jan. 26, 1884, in Bullock Co., AL Olin was mulatto. According to Sallie's daughter--my grandmother, long deceased--Sallie was born in GA. Sallie died July 1926. It was always said that Sallie was all or part Native American ( so many!).

There is the possibility of a connection to Speeds in Coosa, AL, as a line of the white Speed family settled there, and it is possible that they migrated from Coosa to Bullock. Any leads you might be able to give about Sallie Lennard/Leonard will be greatly appreciated. If you prefer, you can contact me privately at:
