Hi,
My GGGrandfather was Peter Lennon and he served in the Civil War. In 1864 he was taken prisoner during the seige of Hatchie's Run near Petersburg, Virginia. Later he was sent to Salisbury, N.C. where he and 14 others escaped. After traveling over 450 miles, mostly at night for fear of being seen by confederate troops, he found Union troops at Strawberry Plains, TN. He participated in the closing campaign of the war and was present at the surrender of Robert E. Lee on April 9, 1865. As a Captain he was later asked to stand for a monument by Governor Cyrus G. Luce to honor Michigan regiments and this monument stands at Gettysburg. Peter later returned to Flint Michigan and homesteaded his fathers(Peter the first) land in Clayton Twp. The town of Lennon, Michigan was named in his honor. I wonder if there is a connection?
