Hi Debby,
My Mother is one of Sophia's daughters (my grandmother). My Mother's name is Katherine. One of my cousin's, Leland Williams (Sophia's oldest daughters (Gladys)son has gathered some information.

Here is what he found on William E. Leopold. William was a private in the 1st. Heavy Artillery, Company C, of the Texas Infantry in the Civil War. A new headstone was dedicated for him on Memorial Day 1999 at the cemetery. He had been a member of the regimental bad, and the Knights of Honor. He was a machinist in 1882-1888, working for several different companies and lived at 343 Caroline Street at the corner of Jefferson. In 1889, he then became a full time musician with the Palace Theatre and worked as a musician and ticket taker until his death on Dec. 1, 1893. Our understanding is Mary is buried at the Washington Cemetery with William, their daughter Annie and two of Annie's daughters.

Mary Louise Degenhardt was the daughter of George and Annie Catherine Degenhardt. (This is all we know about her)

I appears we have some wrong information as to whom your Mother married. We have a Tom Rowlett.

We show William and Mary Louise (died 4/24/1902) had 7 children. Annie Leopold Walker (died 5/11/1936), William (married Lina ?) and was president of Leopold & Price Clothiers in Houston, Nelson ( married Lenna Butts) was president of Leopold & Price & Rolle Men's store. (This information I got from another forum... A Peggy Ramer is looking for information about her grandfather, Nelson E. Leopold Sr. She is wanting to know where he is buried. She know's he is buried in Galveston Co. I will get the name of that forum for you), Katherine (I am assuming this your Mother (married Tom Rowlett), Molly (married Tom Warburton) and lived in Waco, August (married Annie ?) and was manager of the bakery department at Henke & Pellot grocery in Houston, and Sophia, born in 1884 in Houston (my grandmother) married Robert Lyle (he was from Greenock, Scotland).

I would love for you to e-mail me some of the pictures. I am wondering if my Aunt Gladys could identify some of the pictures. She lives in Louisiana.

I do not know too much about the Leopolds, my Mother was the youngest and Sophia died when my Mother was 6 weeks old. My Mother went to live with some relatives in Texas until she was 3 and her Father (Robert Lyle. It seems the Leopolds wanted my grandfather to split up the children (8 children)after Sophia died and he wanted them to stay together as a family. I believe after that there was no communication. I will have to find out more information.
Where do you live, I live in Arizona and my Mother Katherine lives in Texas.
