Researching Jacob LEOPOLD's lineage. Jacob Leopold was born in Saxony, Germany, October 30, 1841, son of George and Elizabeth (RUNNEL) Leopold. His father was a tailor by trade. Other known children are Louisa, Caroline, Elizabeth, John, and Adam. Jacob was schooled in Germany and emigrated to the US in 1860, landing at Baltimore. He settled in PA where he learned the baker's and confectioner's trades before enlisting in the 39th NY Volunteers. After the Civil War, he settled in East Brady, Butler County, PA. He married Sophia WAGNER and they had seven children: Carolina, William, Fredericka, Johann, Mena, and two children who died as infants. After Sophia's death, Jacob married Marie Ellen BARNHART, daughter of Abraham Barnhart and Rachel FORINGER. Jacob Leopold homesteaded in Redwood County, MN in 1878 where Marie bore him nine more children: Edward, Harvey, Ida, Lious, Emma, George, Elva, Arthur, and Alfred.
