Well I can certainly understand why Fred would have changed his name due to the Leopold, Loeb murder that occurred, especially with the publicity it received at that time. If you have the time to check into your line for me, that would be wonderful. I am in California, where my GrGrGrandfather James Leopold ended up in 1876. We know very little about him, as he died when my GrGrandmother was just 4 yrs old, and came here alone (as far as we know anyway.) Let me know if you find which line of Leopolds you descend from.
