Lepine-Parish of St Nicholas,Gloucester

I'm looking for my 4xgt grandfather Samuel Lepine stated as a soldier on his son Edwards' marriage certificate. Edward was in Gloucester on 13 June 1846 when he married Susannah Jones (father Job Jones). I don't know if that is where Samuel or Edward was born, but I'm hoping to find info on both. Edward(a Waterman) is down as Leppings on the 1851 census for St Nicholas,Gloucester though I don't know who is with him. Can anyone help. What would Samuel a Soldier be doing here(What war).
