Seeking information on my great-grandfather, Dennis LEPINE, b. abt. Jun 1831-1834. Civil War enlistment papers Rutland, VT say he was born in "St. Jucinst" (possibly anglicized spelling for St. Hyacinthe), Canada; d. Rutland, Vermont, 15 Jul 1902. Immigrated to the US abt. 1848, unable to find immigration papers, possibly went to New York first then Rutland, Vermont. Married 1st, abt. 1859, Julia ROCK 15-16 years from NY, one child, Sarina, b. Dec 1859. Married 2nd, 4 Aug 1866, by Rev. Silas Aiken, Rutland, VT, Julia LAMBOUR; 7 children. Resided at 117Forest, Rutland.
Unable to trace Dennis LEPINE back into Canada. So far, St. Hyacinthe records do not show him in any Lepine family. No info on him in PRDH or Loiselle, all websites LDS,, etc. have same info. I submitted to LDS. He's shows US census Rutland for 1860, 1870 1895 (Vet Sch)& 1900, and city directory. Military enlistment and pension papers show only "St. Jucinst", Canada. Can you anyone point me in the correct direction? Its been suggested that Lepine is a "dit" name?
