A map of Austria-Hungary:

After the fall of this empire, several new countries were formed and one was Czechoslovakia. A map of that former country at www.cgsi.org In 1993 the Czechoslovakia became Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
The OVA is a female ending so your George would have been a LESKO and his female family members LESKOVA. Up to 1918 the records would say Hungary and the names in Hungarian. A first name translation : http://topolcsanyi.alphalink.com.au/names
You might post a query on Slovak Republic's Genforum.
An ALL site for research in Slovak Republic/Slovakia:

The surname GYURCSIK is in Hungarian and in Slovak it would be D^URC^K. SK's phone book: www.zoznamst.sk
The Hungarian Gy is D^ in Slovak.
