Been studying Le Sueurs for years now:......LeSueur IS the traditional name of this clan in Rouen and Normandy......they can be found as early as 1232 in Evreux outside of Paris........iin records
The Lesueurs were fierce Protestants and paid dearly for it.
The LE SOURDS were an entirely different family: originating from Champagne and Burgundy : the earliest one being Landric le Sore or Le Sor and Sourd.........they were theCounts of Beaugency just outside of Paris as well.
Sourd means Deaf.........so a lot of men got this nickname attached to them as they aged.
But only a few continued to use it as a family name.
The Lesueurs are more closely associated with the ancient family Sutor.........shoemaker......mostly associated with Belgim and Picardy
If your ancestor came from Normandy he would more probably be a LeSueur as they were a huge group in this region: mostly based out of Rouen.......there are many many records of them still in existence as they were prominent merchants and government officials and in later times also nobles.
Le Sor means Red........
