Hey Jerry, Here is what I've found since my last post. In the 1850 Jefferson Co., FL census there is one Letchworth family. The head of household is Feady Letchworth (51) female (no husband is listed). The children are listed as follows: Frederick (23) my gg grandfather; William (21); Elizabeth (18); Sarah A (17); Eliza (12) All of these family members had listed for their state of origin, North Carolina. Also living with the Letchworth's was a Nancy Millier (24) and Thomas Millier (3). I can only speculate as to Nancy and her son. It shows Nancy from NC and Thomas being born in FL. I don't know if Nancy was the oldest daughter in the family, had married and returned to live back at home with her son for some reason, or if she is a friend of the family living there. As I stated in my previous post the only other Letchworth living in Jefferson Co. in 1850 was a Thomas Letchworth. I believe he was (27) from North Carolina and living with a Davis family. I don't have my notes in front of me for Thomas. I specluate if Thomas was the oldest son of the Letchworth family and had moved out? I do remember that the Letchworth's and the Horton's were close to each other when listed in the census. However, I don't know if that means they lived in close proximity to one another, but that could be a possibility (The census taker going from neighbor to neighbor). I have also looked at the 1860 and 1870 Florida census indexes (not the actual census itself). In 1860 there were only six Letchworths listed in the state of Florida. They are Fedy, Fredrick, N. H., T. G., Tedy, and W. H. All were listed in Monticello, Jefferson Co. In 1870, the number of Letchworths living in Florida had risen to twenty-four. Again, they were all located in Jefferson Co. One final note, there were also six people with the last name of Letchwath in the 1870 census (a southern pronunciation of Letchworth I'm sure) They were also from Jefferson Co. My next step is to check the 1790 to 1840 censuses to determine which decade that first Letchworth family migrated from NC down to Florida. After that I'll check the 1880 thru 1920 FL censuses. I'll relay any info I get from this work in progress, likewise any info you may share with me would be appreciated. You can find my e-mail address by clicking on my name at the top of the posting. Good luck, Darren Montgomery
