I am seeking slaves in the families of Letchworth, Chism and Howard. My gggreat grandmother Mary Ann Howard & her mother AMY were owned by Jacob Chism whose oldest daughter Mary Polly married Thomas C. Letchworth in Cooper Co or Morgan Co Missouri. Mary Ann was bequeathed by Jacob to his daughter Elizabeth who married Lot Howard. [The Howard, Chism, Williams and Estes families seem to have intermarried quite a bit]

It appears from the records that Jacob was the guardian of the Letchworth children (minor heirs) and rented out slaves that belonged to the family. The 1850 and 1860 slave schedules for Morgan Co -- shows the Letchworth heirs owned a good number of slaves.

If anyone has any documentation on slaves in the family etc., I would be most appreciative.
