Catherine;
I am going over to visit with my 94 year old dad tonight.He knew several of the Lewis family;he and my mother were born and raised in the Martin Co/Lawrence Co. area.
One of the older 'patriarchs' of the Lewis family at the turn of the century was GRANT and GREEN LEWIS.My ancestors and the families then always got together during OLD SETTLERS DAY around Oden, Indiana.
Have you heard that the Lewis and Fields families orginally came from the old country together, and some of the descendants of those original families ended up in the same area of Southern Indiana.That was one of the few stories definitely handed down in my family.It might be a clue as to being able to go back further in our genealogies; no one in our family can seem to trace Stephen Fields (b. 1771) any further back.
I know there have been many marriages between the descendants of those familiesin the past generations.
