LEWALLEN/LOUALLEN of Ky, Miss., Texas and Ark.

According to a family letter dated 1924, the family of Jonathan LEWALLEN, Sr. (1827-1904) resided for a time in Paducah, Kentucky. Some of Jonathanís uncles moved to Mississippi, and I suspect that they were the Jonathan LOUALLEN (born c.1795), Benjamin LOUALLEN (c.1800) and Joseph LOUALLEN (c.1810) who appeared in the 1840 federal census for Pontotoc Co., Mississippi. The letter states that Jonathanís anonymous father (the brother of the Pontotoc men) moved to Texas in 1843. Circa 1848, Jonathan married Mary Margaret LANGLEY and they settled in Saline County, Arkansas, where they had nine children.

Because so many of the earlier records in Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas are missing, and because there are so many spelling variations of this surname, the identity of Jonathanís father remains a mystery. I suspect, but cannot prove, that Jonathanís grandfather (the father of the Pontotoc men) was Joseph C. LEWALLEN, Sr. (c.1763-c.1855). I would deeply appreciate any information that might identify either (1) Jonathanís father in Texas or (2) the father of the Pontotoc men. Deep thanks.
