In the Lewis genealogy I published in 1993, I show his wife as Ann (Lanphere?).For a list of libraries that had a copy of the book goto http://www.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/library.htmlhttp://www.hal-pc.org/~wmewrght/library.html
I documented my sources in my book, something that you don't often see on the internet.
The will of John Lewis dated 14 Apr 1732, proved in Westerly 22 Apr 1735, names his wife as Ann.Anna Lewis's will in Westerly names her children and some grandchildren.
The Lanphere surname comes from a Lanphere will that names a daughter Ann Lewis. But there is a date problem identifying her as the wife of John-2.
I have not seen the reference to John-2's wife as being Ann Babcock, perhpas because I don't pay a lot attention to internet genealogies because of the many errors found in them. There is nothing in the RI records that would show Ann(a)'s maiden name other than the Lanphere will and that has problems.
Where could the Babcock speculation have come from?Three of John-2's siblings married Babcock siblings. So could John-2 have married a Babcock? The three Babcock siblings did not have a sister named Ann.They did have a cousin named Ann who was the right age to be John-2's wife. But without sources and a discussion of how the conclusion was reached, I would not place any credence on the Babcock surname for Ann(a).
I descend from John and Ann's son Joseph. How do you descend from John-2?
