Sadly, no further information has come to light, so I continue to wait for more evidence to surface. Here is some info. on Zachariah's family in case it is helpful to anyone trying to prove or disprove the connection:
Zachariah, son of Amos and Jane (Clawson) Sutton, served in the Revolutionary War from (Sussex) County, New Jersey in (1776).He was taxed in Somerset County, Bedminster Township, New Jersey in July, 1784 (single man with horse); July 1785 (90 acres, 2 horses, and 3 cattle); August 1786 (50 acres, 2 horses, and 2 cattle) (not listed as single in 1785 or 1786).He was taxed in Somerset County, Bernards Township on December 20, 1787 (tax delinquent), and in August, 1788 (householder). He moved to Westmoreland County, Derry Township, Pennsylvania about 1789, where he lived on a farm adjoining Jonathan Doty, Jonathan Riggs, and Jeremiah Sutton. He was the "Ezeriah" Sutton in Derry Township, in 1790 (with one daughter under 16), and the "Zedekiah" in Derry Township in 1800 (20010- 31010 beside Jeremiah Sutton’s lot, and Platt Sutton). He moved to Butler County, Liberty Township, Ohio between 1800, and 1804 (not taxed in Ohio in 1806), and was taxed there in 1807 (1 male tithable over 21). In 1810, he and John Ayres witnessed a deed between David and Susanna Enyart to Benjamin Enyart, and another deed between Benjamin and Mary Enyart to David Enyart.During the War of 1812, he was drafted as a teamster, and because of his age, his eldest son, John, served in his place. In 1816, he purchased lot #17 in Princeton from William Hunt, and in 1817, he purchased lot #15 in Princeton (lost by Joseph Sutton for taxes). He appeared on the 1820 census of Liberty Township (010101- 01201 besided Samuel Doty Jr., and close to Searing, Daniel, and Samuel Doty Sr.)He died in Fairfield Township in March, 1823 (his estate said that he was of Fairfield Township when he died).Letters of administration were granted to David Clarkson in March 1823 (John Cummins and James Ayres sureties), and in March 1823, Elijah Sutton, orphan of Zachariah, aged 17 on 21 January last (January 21, 1823) until he was 21 (James Ayres was surety). Zachariah married in Somerset County between July 1784 and July 1785. His wife may have been a daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Freeman) Lewis, or a daughter of Zephaniah and Anna (Doty) Lewis, but there is insufficient evidence to support the conclusion so far.The theory is based on the naming practices of Zachariah’s children, his association to members of the Lewis family, and similar family movements. It is possible that Zachariah also married Phebe, daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Bayless) Sutton, between 1799 and 1815 (depending on the reliability of Voorhees/Sutton research).Zachariah had the following children:
Catherine, born about 1786, married Cornelius, son of Samuel and Priscilla Doty, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1805, and died in Butler County, Liberty Township, Ohio in 1813 (before May 1814, when Cornelius remarried). He resided in Butler County, Liberty Township, Ohio in 1807 (between John Line and near David Enyart), and Butler County, Hanover Township in 1820 (110010-20010).He witnessed a deed between Benjamin and David Enyart in Butler County, Liberty Township in 1807.
John, born on December 20, 1790, married Sarah, daughter of Timothy and Elizabeth (Doty) Brees, and , and died in Mercer County, Dublin Township, Ohio on May 14, 1852 (my ancestors).
Hannah, born about 1792, married Eliakim Marsh in Butler County, Fairfield Township, Ohio on February 12, 1812, and resided in Dearborn County, Lawrenceburgh, Indiana in 1830.
Anna, born in 1795, married Jacob Compton, in Warren County, Ohio on August 2, 1815, and died between 1850 and 1870.
daughter, born about 1797, and was alive in 1820.
Lewis, born on February 22, 1798, married Elizabeth Welch in Franklin County, Indiana on September 24, 1835, and died in Mercer County, Dublin Township, Ohio on May 16, 1870.
Abigail, born in Pennsylvania on December 6, 1801, married Andrew Guy in Butler County, Ohio on November 7, 1830, and died in Mercer County, Dublin Township, Ohio on February 16, 1878 (Mercer Cemetery).
daughter, born about 1804, and was alive in 1820.
Elijah, born in Butler County, Liberty Township on January 22, 1806.
Thanks for all your help.
Keith
