William Preston Lewis of Indiana from WPL of North Carolina

I am descandant of William Preston of Indiana(1865-1939) son of Isaac Lewis, who lived in Greene Co., IN(1844-1907). But here is where I find my search gets confusing. Some of my research says he is possibly the son of a Chrisman Lewis (1818-1848). Chrisman was married to a Flinn. Which would explain the appearence of an Isaac Lewis living with Flynns in the 1850 census.

However I've recently come acrost pages and forums discussing the descendants of Gideon Lewis Sr. of North Carolina(1730-1801)With a son named Isaac Jacob Lewis (1773-1843)who's sons are Isaac Lewis (1822-1870)and Jacob Lewis (1824-1843). Jacob had sons named Isaac Lewis (1845-1865) and WILLIAM PRESTON Lewis (1844-1908).

I cannot believe that this is coincidence. Given the proximity of the years between Isaac of Greene Co. and William Preston of NC. and the names I believe there must be a connection. If anyone has information on this branch of the family and perhaps a connection from North Carolina to Indiana please help.
